Each image was like a grainy photograph, taken from street corners, here and there, from the inside of a hotel lobby or inside a vehicle. Many were marked with 252.7.17.14.32.12 in the corner. As far as she could tell all of the images were from the last day or two.

There was another Pool out there.

“Pool!” She yelled, through the door.

She heard a rustling outside the door, then a knock.

“Please come in, Blackwood!” Formality, be damned.

After Etelka flicked through two dozen of images, Pool was as amazed as she.

“Well, one explananation could be that the other you is out of time as well.” The fear of doubling one’s existence by time-travel suddenly borne out. “Or it could be the original you. Or it could be one or more other copies of the original. It is hard to say from these photographs.”

“Where were these photographs taken?” Pool asked. The clumsiness of his left hand made the movement of the images difficult. “What is that string of numerals?” He pointed.

Etelka zoomed in. “Singhapolis, it looks like. Why would you end up there of all places. That’s half a world away, and as far as I remember, you have no connection to the Far East…Those numbers could be the date? Don’t they use a different calendar now?”

“I am equally flummoxed, Ms Kekszemu. Likely even moreso than you.”
